Venice is a beautiful city situated on a canal and the only means of transportation are boats. Most of the boats are made to run either manually or by some combustible fuels, causing a lots of nose and pollution.

However, Posidonia Srl and MW-Line SA have developed a CO2 emission-free transport powered by solar energy collected on roof of the boat. The boat is surely better than other conventional boats as it has low maintenance cost, produces no sound, no harmful emission and the fuel used is free of cost. This is a great achievement and I am sure that it will be appreciated by other people too. A solar-powered vaporetto has been brought in use at Venice recently.

Few days back we did a story on a tank shaped house from Snail Shell system now we can add the Kita Haus pod to this list. It is a stand-alone accommodation from Designer Robert Gaukroger.

It can be used as temporary office or permanent living and working environments. The legs of this pod are adjustable which means it can be situated on any site.

The construction material uses glulam frame, over boarded in 12mm ply and insulated using Actis super 9 fabric. The main purpose to build this pod was for holiday purposes. The internal face is over boarded with high quality ply, which creates a highly efficient low-energy building.

The tripod-style leg construction is made from timbers with a metal pad foot, which is bolted to the pre-prepared foundation pads on the site - the only site work required. The layout for Kita Haus is a walk-in lounge from the entrance, a galley kitchen and central bathroom. There is a double bedroom at the other end of the pod, giving both the lounge and bedroom the benefit of the full height end windows.

The pod comes with main power access to the pre wired interior and batteries which will be charged from an optional solar panel. A mains water connection is available with a built-in under-floor water tank, which services the shower, sinks and toilet.

The Kita Haus will be manufactured and marketed under the name of KITA Design and the first Kita Haus will begin construction in December and will be on site in February 2007. The kita haus is priced between GBP 50,000 to GBP 75,000 depending on volumes.
