Explorius is a latest concept in yacht technology. This yacht boasts of a Hydrofoil technology.

This new technology consists of a wing profile that moves underwater just similar to the wings of an aircraft that move in air.

The application of this is also same as that in aircraft technology. When winds are of speed more than 10 knots, the Hydrofoil produces a lifting force that pushes the boat above the surface of water and reduces the displacement and friction of the boat enormously.

This technology allows open ocean travel and that too above the waves.

With this technology the yacht can speed up to 32 knots and carry a maximum of 10 passengers.

China is set to carry its legacy in shipbuilding forth by delivering first liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship in the month of November, which is ine of the most advanced ships in the world. The technology to build such ocean liners is for now in the hands of China, Korea, and a few European nations.

LNG ships are also dubbed as “maritime super freezer” because natural gas can only be altered into the liquefied by reducing the temperature below minus 163-degrees Celsius. World’s third largest shipping group Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding is taking care of the construction of the very boat that offers a capacity of 47,200 cubic meters.

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) further said that four more LNG vessels would be rolled out by the end of this year while a LNG ship with a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters in the R&D phase.

CSSC is currently a parent company of 60 subsidiaries dedicated to ship building, ship repair, research and development and offshore engineering.

The current world record for circumnavigating the globe in a powerboat is in the name of British boat Cable & Wireless that completed 24,000 nautical miles (the world’s longest race) in 75 days in 998.

Now, the 1,200 horsepower Earthrace hopes to break the record by finishing the expedition in less than 65 days. Although it won’t get anywhere close to the wind-powered record set by the Orange II, it will be the first yacht to smash a major powerboat record while running exclusively on alternative fuels.

The 78-foot wave-piercing trimaran designed by New Zealand naval architect Craig Loomis Design Group and built by Calibre Boats is power-driven by two 540 HP Cummins MerCruiser Diesel engines. Anyway, Earthrace will start its record attempt on March 6 and is still looking for US$500,000 in supplementary sponsorship for its inimitable endeavor.

What you all are quite familiar with are vehicles like snowmobile that provide enough traction so that you don’t slip over. Now here is the ultimate.

The machine pictured above is called the Hyanide and has been designed by some German designers for the 2006 Michelin Challenge Design.

The machine has been designed to run on flexible rubber tread that covers the entire underside of the machine. The tank like tread consists of 77 segments that are made of hard plastic and covered with tire rubber. The entire system is held together by Kevlar rope. This setup provides the traction and also help it corner like no other vehicle.

To steer the monster you not only have to use your hands but also the feet. You have to wear specially designed footwear that can snap onto the pedals like a super bike.

The designers have no plans to release this to the public but considering the response these designers are getting from the auto makers we can well see it some time in future so keep your fingers crossed.

On the engine side you will find a 60hp, 500cc liquid-cooled engine that can make the machine reach speeds up to 85mph.

This is a really cool innovation to the kayaking world an ‘inflatable kayak’. Inflate it when ever you need it otherwise it can be deflated and put in the backpack.

Not much is known but surely I would like to know one thing and that is whether it’s puncture resistant or not. I will hate the scenario were it develops a puncture in the middle of a river or a lake as I don’t know how to swim.

Sony has patented a new motor-powered, balance-steered skateboard, possibly to compete with the Segway Human Transporter, which they claim will be easy and comfortable to ride.

Featuring two large wheels, one at either side of a flat stand, powered by a separate electric motor, the new skateboard comes with four pressure sensors, one at each corner of the platform, for indicating the balance of the rider, as if rider stands straight in the center of the board, each sensor indicates the same reading.

If you want to move the board fast, just bend slightly forward and the front sensors automatically start both motors running forward at the same speed. And, for slowing the momentum down, all you need to do is bend backwards, whilst bending to one side pushes one wheel faster to guide round a curve.
Modified boards with three or four wheels, for more stability, will also be presented for beginners. No words on pricing and availability.
