After continued delays the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) has finally given a green light to the islands first high speed rail link that will be powered by ‘The Bullet Train’.
The line will link the city of Kaohsiung and Panchiao and will also mark the first export of Japan’s famous ‘Bullet Train‘.
The system will run for a couple of months on a trial version after that it will be in full operation. The only difference between the trial and the full operation will be the price of the tickets. Initially in the trial operation the commuters will get a special discount that will be removed after the train begins the full operation.
The Bullet train can reach speeds of up to 300Kmph and will take just 90 minutes for the trip between the two stations and will carry more than 100 million passengers annually.
THSRC has initially hoped to start the operations of the train by October 31, 2005 but it was continuously delayed due to some safety concerns. THSRC has also commented that the delay has could cost them more than $590 Million.
But for now the residents of Taiwan can enjoy ride at an Express pace on the ‘Bullet Train‘.
