For growing concerns about underwater security, to prevent underwater threats and provide early warning to ships and other high value liners, QinetiQ has recently manufactured Cerberus, first private or non-military diver and swimmer detection sonar system, to be positioned to protect a large private yacht and its passengers and is expected to provide its services by early 2007.
Capable of detecting and tracing swimmers and divers from more than 800 meters and to provide 360° cover for ship protection, Cerberus accommodates a crew in a chiefly designed moon-pool to have an ardent watch on happenings around the yacht and an inbuilt target classification response facilitates operators to provide an appropriate response to a situation.
However, it is just a beginning and there are many aspects that require improvement, Cerberus will certainly bring revolution in the private yacht market.
